09 - THE BELOVED, DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI
Beloved is an adjective that means loved very much.
Here's when you can ask what is really love very much? Here we are again, discussing about what's love... Oh, I believe I always want to discuss (with myself and with others) what it is.. Think about it, how some people see it: ones different than others.
What are you based on when you think of love? What are your bases "to compare"?
Do we all think of Romeo and Juliet? William Shakespeare's tragedy from the XVIth century?
Is it possible that right now, in the XXIst century, we still look at the bases of love from a play, and from 5 centuries ago? -Which ends up as a tragedy........
It's true that we humans compare every thing that we have to something. Usually that something is not specific or we don't know where it comes from. It may here were all of us introduce the big term (of which we don't know where it even comes from): tradition.
<
Maybe we think of the sentence on Taylor's Swift song: <
Red as passion? Red as bad? Red as intense? It could be anything!! For her it is her red. Here's we identify colours to feelings, but that is the most personal and less transferring concept.
And so is love, everybody has it's own bases, comparations.
At last I want to explain the relation about this painting of the XIXth century from Dante Gabriel Rossetti. It started with the name of the painting: Beloved = BeLoved = Be Loved. It is a very easy word to end up talking about love.
This painting represents in the center someone who has recently died and who the painter before and after this fact, was obsessed with.
Obsessed is the word that books use, it is true that this women Lizzie Siddal was painted a lot of times by Rossetti. But in this era you don't usually paint someone with who you don't have a close relationship to. It could be any kind of love, romantic, carnal, brotherly..
But it is still love.
You don't paint this that you have in front of your eyes if you don't love and feel afection for the person represented. For me, it is a great piece of art (of course this is subjective). Just when I look at the veil she's holding around her head, as the same colour of her clothes BUT with a great flowered pattern.. And so colorful: red, yellow, green, dark green, orange, gold. Out of her clothes you can even see more colours!!!! And those transparent veils, their curly hair black, dark brown, lighter brown or red-haired..
And what about the background? It is made of what women are holding (very metaphoric). Cut branches with bright red flowers on them.. This colour splash on dark green leaves. Also the roses that the nearest woman is holding, those pinkish, creamy, pastel roses are all together in a gold vase..
Well, I didn't mean to be this specific about these flowers but it's impossible to keep your sight out of them. The form they are painted with, the tecnique and the precision. And I would keep on writing about the jewels and veils they are wearing, but it might be to long to do right now. The books are calling me to go back to them!!
From Friday to Friday (at least I am trying)
